Nearly 70 years ago, our location was home to Gasperson’s Grocery & Gas Station. But as local spots in a country town go, it was so much more than a quick stop where people gassed up their cars. It was a place where the community gathered. They'd catch up, tell stories, and get warm by the wood stove. They connected with friends before work and shook off the stress of the long day behind them. It was a special place.
We felt it the moment we walked in, and that's why we decided to keep the building and as many of its old features as possible. In fact, if you look up near the bar, you can still see the smoke stain on the ceiling from the potbelly stove, where customers would stand around and talk.
We like to think we kept the spirit of Gasperson’s Grocery & Gas Station, too. We remain a place where people gather and connect, share ideas, and remember what's truly important in life. We'll fill you up with delicious drinks, great conversation, and that warmth in your soul that can be elusive in today's world.
We believe that every cup of coffee or glass of your favorite beverage has the power to bring people closer, and we strive to create an environment that fosters community, inclusivity, hardy laughs, and a genuinely good time.
A Filling Station with All the Essentials
This may be the first bar we've owned, but we have many years of experience as patrons. Back when a place of our own was just a dream for the future, we studiously tested drinks and visited fun environments to plan the optimal outing. It was a tough job, but we think it paid off in the end result.
Meet Max.
Max spent years thinking about opening up a place of his own - one that served really great drinks at fair prices, with something for everyone. The day he wandered into the old Gasperson's building (an antique shop at that point), he knew it was time to give it a go. He fell in love with its history as a place the community gathered and connected, and he designed every detail in The Old Haywood Filling Station with the goal of recreating that magic.
Today, you’ll often find Max chatting with regulars over a glass of something delicious, slipping treats to our four‑legged visitors, and making sure every guest has everything they need to feel right at home. His lovely wife Pam works behind the scenes to keep the place running smoothly. Together with their fantastic staff, they’ve become the dream team Max always hoped would one day come together.
